Curious sensations

Sometimes I feel as though I’ve been hollowed out, cored like an apple, and set adrift midstream to be filled by whichever passing current sloshes into the void. Whole days can be lost to daydreaming as fanciful desires urge me to join the army, climb mountains, write epics and attain nirvana.

I can feel as though I should have been born two hundred years ago and worn a monocle, or that I was born two hundred years ago and did. Déjà vu raises its head and new people and places become eerily familiar, evoking memories I’ve never had.

It’s a strange and wonderful sensation, utterly ephemeral, like living in a story or being Mr. Benn.

There was always something shifty about that shopkeeper.

Urgh

I’ve been daydreaming today and in the midst of these flights of fancy, like a spider in a web, was a spider. Um, in a web. For today I have hit upon something truly horrible and creepy, dire enough to make grown men quiver with fear.

Imagine if spiders were the size of dogs.

Of Moon-trips and jellybeans

Sometimes I forget how lucky I am in having wonderful friends that are prepared to not only tolerate, but also spend time with me doing things that are F.U.N.

Thursday – Drinks at the Stratford Haven with Laura, Susie and Larah with smutty conversation throughout.

Friday – Night down the pub with Duncan and Greg the new housemate, followed by too much pizza and a great deal of laughing at South Park and Scrubs.

Saturday – Murder Mystery evening at Jenny’s with the guys and girls from work. Spent the evening dressed as an Italian Mobster in winkle-picker shoes and became sufficiently inebriated to walk the four miles home in the cold. A chav may have been menaced in the process.

Sunday – Embarked upon a Trip to the Moon with Lucy. Discovered gardens, both hidden, secret and walled, a dragon’s cave, a spooky tunnel, a bed covered in Chinese silk, 40,000 stuffed birds and assorted animals, jelly beans, Sunday lunch and the most ridiculous film I have ever seen. Ever. *

Monday – Lay in the park with Chris, talking about how clouds look like things and why it is that you always end up with one sock (goblins).

Tuesday – Meal at fancy restaurant in town because Laura has a French Friend visiting and it’s an excuse to dress up as Regency dandies and have ‘staff’ cook for us.

Wednesday – Day off.

Thursday – Pub quiz with the guys from work then a P.A.R.T.Y in town with Larah, Susie et al. Everyone’s welcome.

Friday – Nothing so far, but it’s just a matter of time. Invite me to something!

Like I said, I’m a lucky man.

* Note. Any talk of my setting off the fire alarms at Calke Abbey is nothing more than spurious rumour. I didn’t touch anything, I was just looking.
