I have discovered that if you show people how to do something mildly amusing, they’ll happily flog the concept to death; then they’ll flog it again, flog it a bit more, then flog it one more time for luck. It doesn’t matter that all the humour has drained out – no, not one bit – the important thing is that you beat the concept into the ground so that it can never be used again without engendering hate and derision. I think this perhaps is how the internet works.
