I honestly thought I’d seen it all, as far as Health & Safety announcements go; I thought I’d encountered every patronising inanity it was possible for the industry to spew. Not so, BEHOLD!
Wasps & Bees
Brief Description
It’s that time of year when we start to receive reports of incidents involving bees & wasps.
Below are a few points in which you can help prevent being stung by a bee or wasp.Learning Points
- Minimise spillages – if you do spill sugar clean it up immediately.
- Cover open bags of sugar.
- Make sure rubbish bins are emptied regularly.
- Get rid of any left over food.
- Minimise wearing bright colours and strong scents such as perfume and deodorants.
- If possible keep your arms and legs covered.
- Don’t drink sugary beverages outdoors.
- If a bee or wasp approaches you, don’t panic and wave your arms – sit tight or walk away gently.
- If you are allergic to bee/wasp stings or have any other allergies ensure you have informed your colleagues and site first aiders/Site Safety Coordinator.
- The symptoms of an allergic reaction include: Skin flushing, itchiness and headaches, problems with breathing, nausea, faintness, lack of blood pressure - the advice is to take the person affected to the local accident and emergency unit immediately.
This is my favourite part.
