Of late, and because I’m prone to getting caught up in any particular moment, I’ve been indulging in rather more physical exertion than I ordinarily would. This isn’t a knee-jerk reaction to the excesses of Christmas as it is with so many others – for the fourth year in a row I actually lost weight over the festive period – but rather a firming of my resolve to be a better person. For some reason I link that with reading less Manga, spending fewer hours on the internet and going outside more. Go figure.
Anyway, I’ve been tracking my trips over at Every Day Cycling and have been somewhat surprised to discover that I’ve clocked up 81.4 miles so far. Not bad for eight days of commuting and bimbling about, but not good enough for what I intend, namely, the C2C.
That’s right, at some point over the summer I intend to cycle from the West Coast to the East Coast while eating pies along the way, slaying dragons and solving The Mysterious Case of the Ghost in the Woollen Mill†. I figure, what with the UK’s economy exploding into tiny shards of festering shit, my money being worth approximately nothing on the continent, and my trip to Japan being postponed yet again*, I may as well keep it real and enjoy some Old School, Famous Five-style action and adventure. Not to mention muscle fatigue, vomiting, stress, horrendous Deliverance-style attacks by the locals and a oneness with nature born of sunstroke and mushrooms picked along the way. But it’s all good fun, right?
Four days should be enough, I reckon, especially given my love of taking photographs (and my time). All I need now is someone stupid enough to tag along with me and, potentially, a charity to support. That’d be nice.
So, any suggestions?
In other news, and because the temperatures in Courchevel are currently hitting a balmy -8 to -20 °C (which is a bit cold even for a man of my fur density) I’ve purchased some silk sock liners to go underneath my ski socks and ensure toasty tootsies. Oh. My. God. They’re like sex for feet; I’ve never worn anything so soft and warm and comfy. ^_^
Here endeth the enthusing.
†For serious reals!
*That said, because of this Steve has decided he fancies tagging along, which is awesome. Yay, Steve!
