So, I’ve finally piqued your interest with my incessant banging on about my C2C trip, eh? Excellent. Now you will sponsor me, I insist. You must do it, there is no other choice. Sponsor me, it is the only way. Do it, do it, doooo iiiiiit!

Failing that, play about with the links and find out what I’m up to, maybe read the inaugural post below; it’s all good.

And now for the inaugural post. You’ll have to excuse the tone of it, I thought it best to go into this thing with as little pretense as possible.

nun’s charity shindig

Those of you keen of wit and eagle of eye will have noticed a new (and somewhat unsightly) addition to my glorious little sidebar over there >>>>
You will, no doubt, be wondering just what the buggery-nonsense it is doing there, ruining the keen aesthetic of the site and flashing up numbers and scrolling text like some sort of neon-clad bastard.

I've got much nicer legs.

Well, it would appear that I’ve finally committed myself to cycling the C2C this August and, in the process, I’m going to try and raise a bit of money for Macmillan Cancer Support. It’s one of those things that’ll have seemed like a good idea at the time when you’re soaked to the skin and being attacked by stoats up some remote mountain track, trust me.

Anyway, you may have guessed this, but that little widget is there to encourage you to splash a bit of cash and make my selfish cross-country bike ride a cause for good. My apologies for the honesty, but it isn’t as though every fund raiser is some sort of modern day Saint is it? Look at it like this; if nothing else, you’ll be spending your hard earned money in order to see me run into the ground broken and exhausted, like some great wobbly pink bull hacked to death by matadors. The only real difference is that I’ll be on a bike. Think about it.

I honestly would like to say this whole endeavour is born of some deep-seated nobility, an inner altruist that’s finally bursting to the surface of my muddied soul, but it isn’t, not really. You see, like so many other people, I couldn’t give a toss about charity this time last year*, I was squarely focused on my own life because, and let’s face it, dealing with your own everyday shite takes up pretty much all of your resources and what little you do have left over tends to go on relaxing, fun, and all those other things you can’t do when you’re at work, stuck in traffic, or staring at the telly.

Then my father was diagnosed with cancer, something which rather changed my perspective and, to be fair, led indirectly to this little expedition. It’s the worst kind of selfishness, something that I have previously - and indeed, currently – decry in all it’s venal glory. The world is full of people who don’t care much beyond their own horizons until something affects them directly, and I don’t like it. I don’t like it, but there it is; that’s people for you. And yes, I’m aware that I’m one of them – but I’m cool with that, self-discovery is a good thing. I mean, my newfound charity may be born of a strange sort of hypocrisy, but life goes on, right? You live, you learn, you change, and there’s little point in pretending that things are any different.

However, I’m still off on this ridiculous adventure, and I’m still intent on raising a bit of cash in the hope that something good might come of it. I hope the frank appraisal of my motives doesn’t put you off donating a few quid. After all, just because I’m a bit of a git, it doesn’t mean that you have to be. ^_^

Oh, and because I really am doing this, check out the following.

* Not strictly true, I’m quite partial to the NSPCC. It does make me seem all mean and moody though. Grr.
